IJA ROCKS RACE JUDICATA!

The 19th Circuit (Lake County) Wins The IJA’s Healthiest Courthouse Contest
(L to R, Mike Betar, Margaret Mullen, Chuck Smith, Dan Jasica, Mitch Hoffman, Janelle Christensen, David Brodsky,
DJ Vorderstrasse, Lou Berrones, Veronica O’Malley, Stacey Seneczko)

A big thank you to all the judges who supported equal access to justice in last night’s Chicago Volunteer Legal Services RACE JUDICATA (Thursday, September 12th). It was a picture perfect night to be on Chicago’s lakefront for a 5K race and festival honoring the pro bono work of CVLS.

Judges from McHenry (Mike Chmiel) to Mount Vernon (David Overstreet) came in for the cause. The fastest judge in the race was Stacey Seneczko, closely contested by Dan Jasica, and followed by David Brodsky and Jim Snyder. Appellate justices from two appellate districts vied to cross the finish line first. This year, the 5th District Appellate’s runner, Justice David Overstreet, edged out the First Appellate’s Justice Mary Mikva. (Both’s results were affirmed.) A total of 39 judges, sitting and retired, registered for the event.

The 19th Judicial Circuit (Lake County) won the IJA Wellness Committee’s contest to see which downstate circuit or Cook County courthouse or division registered the most judges [including retireds] from their jurisdiction (figured as a percentage of the total judges sitting). This year's winner is the 19th Judicial Circuit (Lake County) with a hard-to-beat score of 60%.

Thank you to the Lawyers Assistance Program for again inviting IJA to run as part of the LAP team. Congratulations to all that participated and hope to see you at Race Judicata 2020!
